There had been other cars where the mechanics used the power-washer sloppily, resulting in damage, or they included an inefficient nitrous system or no backup lights or gear indicator. Owner Jeff Miller quickly okayed the build, hoping to get his faded Chevelle nice and gleaming again. The paint was vintage and it had a cool dark green vinyl interior.
Unfortunately, many people believe that Foose destroyed the integrity of the original car when he removed the original dark green interior, sanded away the vintage color, and removed the original engine block. The end result left Jeff happy but many gearheads were not as ecstatic. More people were dismayed by what Foose and his crew did to this rust-free, untarnished Oldsmobile Cutlass. The mark made drawings and the wife selected, under pressure, one of the three sketches in a similar bronze.
When restoring the car, though, Foose changed the plans, painted most of the bottom white with a champagne top and pinstripe division, then he took special wheels and painted them an in-your-face ember-glow color.
Many people likened the build to what Pimp My Ride did to cars. The Chevy Corvette is one of the most classic cars from the US, especially s versions. But many people think that what Chip Foose does is blasphemy: modernizing classics and giving them huge wheels and flames down the sides. They things it's garish and unnecessary. First, lots of viewers thought that Foose had no business messing with a Impala in the first place.
There are plenty more admirable cars to work on, especially when there are only so few episodes of the show and builds that air. Foose is an amazing talent and he might not have the final say in every car that is worked on since other producers have a say but this one should have never made it past the application stage.
The problem lies in who the build was for: the legendary cyclist who eventually confessed to acts that besmirched his legacy for all time.
Of course, the build came before the revelation and before he was stripped of all of his Tour de France titles. Most people who watched this Ford Mustang GT episode though the car turned out absolutely sweet. For more information, please visit www. What do you think? Would you have watched a tenth season? These problems were relatively minor - a loose door handle, a mirror that was a bit crooked, less than ideal suspension - but they do require fixing before they are fully roadworthy.
To their credit, the show does indeed provide whatever adjustments have to be made after the episode is filmed. Part of this is also the condition of the vehicle before the revamp; some of them are derelict for years and require more fundamental changes than others.
The most common problem cited with finished products were the paintjobs, which while good quality, would often have blemishes and scratches that needed a touch up. The hook of the show besides the work itself is how they trick the mark into cooperating. They would stage elaborate fake thefts, have a bodyshop say they lost the car, or have it towed for phoney legal reasons.
You can imagine how someone would react if their vintage antique car was lost through theft or negligence. Some were less than happy to put it mildly, but it always worked out in the end. Eventually the show changed tactics and dropped the tricking gimmick due to money issues and negative fan feedback.
Sometimes, the car is changed fundamentally, which actually changes the kind of car it is considered. The Ship of Theseus law, named after the famous paradox, addresses what and how much change can be performed on a vehicle before it is considered a different car. A substantially modified car will no longer be sought by enthusiasts of that particular type, thereby reducing or completely changing identity and expectations.
Not that internet message boards are known for their civility, but the fan feedback on these overhauls was very negative and got worse as the show went on. People tuned in, but the reception from the core audience is why the celebrity episodes were limited. Perhaps the reactions were a bit harsh, but the customer is always right in the ratings business.
